Men making a difference in Lander county schools
In 2009, Battle Mountain PTA & L.C.S.D. adopted the WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program, a national program focused on getting more positive male role models into our schools. We encourage dads, granddads, stepdads, uncles & other positive men to become WATCH D.O.G.S. in our school district & volunteer as little as one day a year. The time you spend helping in our schools makes a huge difference not only to your own child but every child who has the opportunity to interact with you. To become a WATCH D.O.G, simply complete and return the volunteer application below. Once approved, let us know what day you would like to volunteer & we will get you scheduled. For more information about the WATCH D.O.G.S. program, please visit www.fathers.com/watchdogs
If you are not interested in becoming a WATCH D.O.G., there are plenty of other opportunities for you to be involved in your child's education. You are always welcome to visit your child's class when your schedule allows or stop by & have lunch if possible. The Secretary in each building will be able to let you know what time your child is scheduled for lunch & can inform the lunchroom if you plan on buying a hot lunch to ensure they make enough. Any amount of time you spend in our schools shows your child that you think their education is important to you.
We understand that not all schedules allow parents to visit our schools during the day. Reading with your child, attending parent teacher conferences, checking school correspondence & asking with genuine interest about their day, friends & what they are learning are all great ways to stay involved in your child's education.
